This Season at St. Aidan's
At St. Aidan's, we follow a seasonal calendar that guides our meditation, worship, and gatherings.
All are welcome to join us for our gatherings.
The Holy Week Journey at St. Aidan’s —
We invite you to experience the contours and spiritual depths of Holy Week with us at St. Aidan’s. Here is a brief outline of our services:
Sunday, Apr. 14 — Palm Sunday, services at 8 am and 10 am:
The service begins in the St. Aidan’s garden and we process with palms and singing “hosannas” into the church, where we hear the Passion Gospel. After Communion, the service ends in silence. You are invited to bring palms, branches, and portable drums and shakers for the procession.
Thursday, Apr. 18 — Maundy Thursday, beginning at 7 pm:
We gather at 6:30 pm for an agape meal in the parish hall featuring Mediterranean fare and hosted by the St. Aidan’s Altar Guild. After the meal we strip the sanctuary altar and begin the Great Watch. There is a sign up sheet for those who would like to keep watch for an hour through the night either in the church or at home. Please bring a cut flower for the altar of repose.
Friday, Apr. 19 — Good Friday, service as follows:
11:30 am — The Stations of the Cross at Legacy Park (across from the Public Library in the Civic Center). We meet in front of the Library in the park for lunch at 11:30 am and then contemplate the Stations of the Cross at noon. We will be walking the stations around Legacy Park so please wear comfortable shoes.
7 pm — The Liturgy of Good Friday Service at St. Aidan’s, including the veneration of the cross. The sacrament of the reconciliation of a penitent will be offered at 6 pm and after the service in the sanctuary or by appointment with Rev. Ed or Rev. Joyce.
Saturday, Apr. 20, 7 pm — The Easter Vigil:
We gather in the parish courtyard for the lighting of the paschal candle. After we process into the church, we hear stories of God’s salvation with musical interludes and reflections, led by Andy Gladbach. Our service culminates with holy baptism and the renewal of our baptismal covenant, followed by the first Eucharist of Easter. Please brings a bell to ring in Easter joy.
Sunday, Apr. 21 — Easter Sunday, services at 8 am and 10 am:
Christ has risen! We celebrate the Feast of the Resurrection featuring festive music at both services. There will be an Easter egg hunt for the young ones following the 10 am service.
